The Sound

So how does it sound? Wonderful. I can dial in all kinds of old Marshall sounds, from a JTM45-ish mild crunch to a mid 70's metalface scream. It's of course Too Damn Loud, but that's what attenuators are for...

I found that I almost never use the "bright" cap switch, so I may re-configure it for something more useful. I do like and use the "boost" cap switch - it definitely gets that metalface extra edge happening.

Sound Clips

The guitar went straight into the head, and output was connected to a cheapo MG-series 4x12 Marshall cabinet. This was close-miked using an SM57 into an older Mackie mixer, then into a mid-fi cassette deck. The tape was then sampled using a run-of-the-mill Sound Blaster card.

I also had a THD Hotplate set to -4db in the line (I forgot it was connected!)

The guitar used here was a middle-aged Ibanez solid body "pointycaster", with a Lace Sensor in the neck position and a DiMarzio SD by the bridge.
